Lithuania, located on the shores of the Baltic sea, is the biggest of all the Baltic countries. It is bordered by Latvia, Belarus, Poland and Russia. The population of the country is around 3.5 million while the capital city of Vilnius has some 560,000 inhabitants. Lithuania joined the European Union in 2004 along with 9 other countries.
Lithuania was also one of the countries under Soviet influence and got its independence back in 1990. Since then, the country has had its ups and downs in terms of its economy, but now the trend has been largely positive growth.
