Czech Republic is a relatively small nation in the very heart of Central Europe. It neighbors the countries of Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia, which used to be a part of the Republic of Czechoslovakia until 1993. The capital city, Prague, has 1.3 million inhabitants and the whole country has 10.5 million people.

The Czech Republic has a long and hard history behind it. In addition to a very long history which goes back centuries, the country also had its part during the last century. During the cold war, the country was under Soviet influence, like most East-European countries. The occupation continued until 1989, when the communist regime collapsed. On the 1st of January 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved into its constituent states, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.

The Czech Republic has one of the most developed and industrialized economies in Central and Eastern Europe. The Czech Republic has a well-educated population and a well-developed infrastructure. The GDP per capita is 80% of the European Union average. The growth of the economy has been around 6% and it has been led mostly by foreign investment and exports to the EU.
