The capital city, Prague, has 1.3 million inhabitants and the whole country has 10.5 million people.

The Czech Republic has a long and hard history behind it. In addition to a very long history which goes back centuries, the country also had its part during the last century. During the cold war, the country was under Soviet influence, like most East-European countries. The occupation continued until 1989, when the communist regime collapsed. On the 1st of January 1993, Czechoslovakia peacefully dissolved into its constituent states, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic.
